This is a remodeled building project for the regional offices for the Girl Scouts. The project is located in an office park of one story freestanding office buildings, and was built 20 years ago. The interior space was recently gutted to provide updated, modern space for the expanded programs of the Girl Scouts organization. While the functional office space remained at the same square footage, creating more open space and reducing the number of “rooms”, much greater efficiency and better workflow were resulting solutions.
The acoustical drop ceiling was removed to expose the architectural structure, creating a feeling of lightness and open space. The exposed structure was painted white, brighten the space and give a greater feeling of height. Acoustical tile “clouds” were installed above key areas to give better sound control. The carpet was removed to expose the original concrete floors which now identify the main circulation paths. New carpet was installed in work & meetings areas. Bright accent colors replace a dreary, dated scheme, giving new energy and vitality to the space. Space is arranged along an organic, curvilinear path, adding a sense of anticipation to what is around the next bend.
The space is designed to be comfortable and efficient for staff, Girls Scouts & their leaders and community volunteers. The “Chat Room” is used for both employees to have a casual space to make a call or meet, and for the Girl Scouts to “hang out” when visiting the building. “Courage, Confidence and Character” is the Girl Scouts motto, and is reflected in custom tiles at the front of the work stations.
This new, bright colorful interior gives all Girl Scout members and inviting, fun place to visit. It provides employees comfortable space with various areas for collaboration, and emanates a feeling of energy and excitement.
